Event narrative

An accumulating snow occurred during the mid to late evening before mixing with light freezing rain / drizzle during the first half of the overnight. An official NWS Observation at Newark airport reported 3.0 inches. A trained spotter reported 2.8 inches at Elizabeth.

Wider weather episode

A progressive low pressure system emerged out of the Tennessee Valley and quickly moved across the region bringing an accumulating wet snowfall. Most places received an advisory level snowfall with mainly 3 to 4 inches of snow, with some locations getting slightly higher and lower amounts. This was a front end quick thump driven by warm advection snowfall which fell primarily during the evening hours of the 8th. The snow quickly tapered to some light freezing rain and drizzle in spots after the initial thump.
