Multiple high wind gusts were recorded at mesonet sites, including a 62 mph gust in Plum Island, NY at 534 PM Local Standard Time and a 58 mph gust at 935 AM Local Standard Time in Southold, NY. Additionally, NY Department of Highways reported a downed tree on route 25 at Wading Hollow Road near the border of Middle Island and Ridge, NY at 553 PM Local Standard Time.

Wider weather episode

Low pressure and cold front passed through the area during the late afternoon to evening hours of February 16, 2025. A tight pressure gradient behind the passage resulted in high winds across Southeastern New York from the evening hours of February 16 through the morning hours of February 17, 2025.
