Event narrative

The combination of strong winds and wet soils allowed for trees to be brought down within the county. Trees were reported down near Ararat, Pilot Mountain, Mt. Airy and in Dobson. Damage values are estimated.

Wider weather episode

With the approach of low pressure and its associated cold front, conditions became favorable for the development of both thunderstorms capable of producing strong to damaging winds and high winds in general around the circulation center of the low pressure. One such storm developed during the mid-morning hours and downed trees in parts of Yadkin, Wilkes, and Surry Counties. Strong winds around the low pressure circulation center, combined with wet soils, helped downed trees over parts of Surry County.
