Event narrative
KY-94 was closed due to high water between KY-781 and Jeffress Road. Radar estimated rainfall was approximately 2-2.5 inches at the time of closure, with an additional inch of rainfall occurring through the late afternoon and evening hours.
Wider weather episode
A low pressure system pushing northeastward through the Quad State region brought moderate to heavy rain to Western Kentucky for the midday through evening hours. Flash flood and areal flood issues developed late afternoon to early evening in the Purchase Area and Southern Pennyrile where widespread 3 to 4 inch storm total precipitation observations occurred. A water rescue occurred near the Graves/Hickman County line and several vehicles were stranded on Hopkins Rd in Calloway County. CAPE was limited to a couple hundred J/kg. Frontogenesis was oriented west-east across Western Kentucky and precipitable water values were 1.25 to 1.5 inches. River flooding occurred on the S Fork Little River and on the Green River as a result of this heavy rain event.
