Event narrative

At around 1800CST, five vehicles were stranded in high water on Hopkins Rd. Hopkins Rd was closed from KY-464 to Hickory Grove Church Rd. Approximately 2-2.5 inches of rain had fallen in the area at that point, with another inch or so of rain during the evening hours.

Wider weather episode

A low pressure system pushing northeastward through the Quad State region brought moderate to heavy rain to Western Kentucky for the midday through evening hours. Flash flood and areal flood issues developed late afternoon to early evening in the Purchase Area and Southern Pennyrile where widespread 3 to 4 inch storm total precipitation observations occurred. A water rescue occurred near the Graves/Hickman County line and several vehicles were stranded on Hopkins Rd in Calloway County. CAPE was limited to a couple hundred J/kg. Frontogenesis was oriented west-east across Western Kentucky and precipitable water values were 1.25 to 1.5 inches. River flooding occurred on the S Fork Little River and on the Green River as a result of this heavy rain event.
