Event narrative

Light snow began in the county by late morning and continued on and off through the day, with bands of moderate snow by mid afternoon and into the evening. Widespread reports of 1 to 3 inches of snow, with most reports around the town of Waynesboro and areas to the south. Reports came from county emergency management, the public and a COOP observer. The highest snowfall reported was 3.1 inches south of Waynesboro, near the Burke County Airport.

Wider weather episode

A strong upper level trough moved into the southeastern US with a developing surface low moving near the Georgia and South Carolina coast. Light snow began in the morning but as warm advection and frontogenesis strengthened, a band of moderate to heavy snow developed by the evening of the 21st, continuing into the overnight with amounts exceeding 2 inches in the southeastern Midlands.
