A strong cold front moved through the region during the afternoon and evening. Ahead of it, gusty south winds were observed across Eastern NC. A band of showers and thunderstorms produced enhanced wind gusts to severe levels during the afternoon and early evening hours, with widespread gusts between 55 and 65 mph, with sporadic higher gusts. Some isolated small hail was reported as well.
