Event narrative
A weather station one mile west of Aho measured a gust of 60 mph. In addition, another weather station one mile southeast of Boone measured a gust of 58 mph.
Wider weather episode
After a strong cold front exited the Mid Atlantic on March 6, northwest winds increased and became gusty. These high winds blew down numerous trees that knocked down power lines. The highest gust recorded was 60 mph in Watauga County.
