Event narrative

Light snow developed over the county late morning and continued on and off through the afternoon. One inch of snow accumulation was observed by a COOP observer in Lincolnton and near Lake Strom Thurmond.

Wider weather episode

A strong upper level trough moved into the southeastern US with a developing surface low moving near the Georgia and South Carolina coast. Light snow began in the morning but as warm advection and frontogenesis strengthened, a band of moderate to heavy snow developed by the evening of the 21st, continuing into the overnight with amounts exceeding 2 inches in the southeastern Midlands.
