Event narrative

Light snow began in the early afternoon with a moderate to heavy band pushing in the evening and into the overnight. Snow tapered off early in the morning of the 22nd. Snow accumulation reports were between 2 to 4 inches with the highest amount of 3.5 inches reported by a COOP observer east of Barnwell.

Wider weather episode

A strong upper level trough moved into the southeastern US with a developing surface low moving near the Georgia and South Carolina coast. Light snow began in the morning but as warm advection and frontogenesis strengthened, a band of moderate to heavy snow developed by the evening of the 21st, continuing into the overnight with amounts exceeding 2 inches in the southeastern Midlands.
