Event narrative
Light snow began in the early afternoon with a band of moderate to heavy snow pushing in during the evening and into the overnight. Widespread snowfall accumulation of 2 to 5 inches was reported by the public and by a COOP observer. The highest snowfall accumulation observed was 4.3 inches by the public in Ehrhardt.
Wider weather episode
A strong upper level trough moved into the southeastern US with a developing surface low moving near the Georgia and South Carolina coast. Light snow began in the morning but as warm advection and frontogenesis strengthened, a band of moderate to heavy snow developed by the evening of the 21st, continuing into the overnight with amounts exceeding 2 inches in the southeastern Midlands.
