Event narrative

Light snow began in the early afternoon with a band of moderate to heavy snow moving in during the evening and continuing into the overnight. Snow accumulations were generally between 2 to 3 inches from a mix of public, spotter and CoCoRaHS reports. The highest reported total was 3.4 inches, just west of Cope.

Wider weather episode

A strong upper level trough moved into the southeastern US with a developing surface low moving near the Georgia and South Carolina coast. Light snow began in the morning but as warm advection and frontogenesis strengthened, a band of moderate to heavy snow developed by the evening of the 21st, continuing into the overnight with amounts exceeding 2 inches in the southeastern Midlands.
