Light snow showers began in the afternoon with a band of moderate to heavy snow moving in by evening into the overnight. Total snow accumulations were generally between 1 to 3 inches with the highest report in Pinewood of 3.0 inches.
Wider weather episode
A strong upper level trough moved into the southeastern US with a developing surface low moving near the Georgia and South Carolina coast. Light snow began in the morning but as warm advection and frontogenesis strengthened, a band of moderate to heavy snow developed by the evening of the 21st, continuing into the overnight with amounts exceeding 2 inches in the southeastern Midlands.
