The public reported 4.5 inches in Essex Fells and 4.0 inches in West Orange. Cocorahs reported 4.0 inches at 1.3 NE West Caldwell Township. The public also reported 3.4 inches in Livingston.

The wider storm

A progressive upper / mid level trough lead to low pressure moving across the Ohio Valley with a secondary low developing just off the coast. Temperatures were warm and above freezing much of the time along the coast, but often at or below freezing for mainly the northwestern interior. This led to an advisory level snowfall across a good portion of Northeast New Jersey zones.
