A cold front followed by high pressure generated strong winds across north central and central South Dakota, but the core of strongest winds passed mainly through northeast South Dakota during the morning of Friday, February 28th. A peak wind gust of 66 mph was recorded by the South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT) station in Peever, with 65 mph measured by the SDDOT station 7 miles northeast of Milbank. Five additional SDDOT weather stations in the northeast of the state would record a peak wind gust in excess of 58 mph.
