Event narrative
Winds generally gusted 40 to 60 mph. The strongest gust was 70 mph on top of Mt. Tom from a WxFlow site at 10:35 AM EST. In Brimfield a tree was down on wires near Old Sturbridge Rd. In Monson, a tree was down on wires on Silver St. In Springfield, a tree was down on a car on Cortland St. In Holyoke, a tree was down blocking the road. In Westfield, a large tree was down on powerlines snapping two utility poles.
Wider weather episode
A strong low was centered over the Gulf of Maine on the morning of the 7th creating a tight pressure gradient across southern New England. This led to strong wind gusts generally 45 to 60 mph but as high as 70 mph in the highest elevations of MA.
