Mesonet observation north of Scobey reported winds and temperature which generated extreme cold wind chills of -40 degree and colder between 630 am and 830 am on Jan 19th and again between 730 and 830am on Jan 20th.

Wider weather episode

An arctic airmass, combined with bitter northerly winds, resulted in an extended period of Extreme Cold conditions between January 18 through the 20th. This mainly occurred in the northeast zones where wind chills reached -50F.
