Event narrative

Heavy snow spread into Lower Vermilion Parish before sunrise. Winds were gusting around 35 mph while visibility hovered around 1/4 mile or less for several hours. Snow gradually ended around mid day with 6 to 8 inches of accumulation common across the area.

Wider weather episode

An arctic airmass spilled south across the plains and to the gulf coast by the 19th. An area of low pressure moved east across the northern gulf waters during the 20th and 21st producing widespread snow and even blizzard conditions at a few locations near the coast. Snow totals ranged from generally less than 3 inches across Central Louisiana to 5 to 13 inches along and south of Interstate 10. Some snow drifts were 2 feet and deeper. After the snow storm record low temperatures were experienced region wide with some lows falling into the single digits, especially were snow was the deepest.
