Event narrative

Light snow began during the early morning hours across southern Jefferson Davis Parish with heavy snow moving in after sunrise. Visibility fell to 1/4 mile while wind gusts were around 25-32 mph at Jennings for multiple hours. Accumulations ranged from 5 to 9 inches.

Wider weather episode

An arctic airmass spilled south across the plains and to the gulf coast by the 19th. An area of low pressure moved east across the northern gulf waters during the 20th and 21st producing widespread snow and even blizzard conditions at a few locations near the coast. Snow totals ranged from generally less than 3 inches across Central Louisiana to 5 to 13 inches along and south of Interstate 10. Some snow drifts were 2 feet and deeper. After the snow storm record low temperatures were experienced region wide with some lows falling into the single digits, especially were snow was the deepest.
