Event narrative

Light snow began during the early morning hours across lower Jefferson County with heavy snow moving in around sunrise. Winds frequently gusted into the 25 to 35 range along the coast while visibilities fell to around 1/4 for multiple hours. Accumulations ranged from 4 to 6 inches.

Wider weather episode

An arctic airmass spilled south across the plains and to the gulf coast by the 19th. An area of low pressure moved east across the northern gulf waters during the 20th and 21st producing widespread snow with near blizzard conditions along the coast. Snow totals ranged from 1 to 3 inches in the lakes region to 4 to 8 inches across Jefferson and Orange Counties.
