Event narrative

Light snow moved into the area by mid afternoon with a brief period of moderate snow late in the evening. Snowfall accumulations were generally between a half inch and one and a half inches. The highest report of 1.8 inches came from the county emergency manager just southwest of Cheraw.

Wider weather episode

A strong upper level trough moved into the southeastern US with a developing surface low moving near the Georgia and South Carolina coast. Light snow began in the morning but as warm advection and frontogenesis strengthened, a band of moderate to heavy snow developed by the evening of the 21st, continuing into the overnight with amounts exceeding 2 inches in the southeastern Midlands.
