Event narrative

Trace amounts of sleet and freezing rain fell across mostly the northern portion of Colleton County. The winter weather caused some travel disruption including ice on the roadway on Highway 61 near Happiness Lane, resulting in a vehicle collision.

Wider weather episode

An area of light precipitation developed just after sunrise and spread into portions of southeast South Carolina through the early afternoon hours. As the precipitation moved in, temperatures across the area were below freezing. Evaporative cooling processes allowed for precipitation to fall as a mixture of snow, sleet, and freezing rain across portions of Colleton, Dorchester, Berkeley, and Charleston counties. Some areas received light accumulations which yielded hazardous travel conditions.
