A cold northwest upslope flow developing in the wake of an arctic cold front resulted in development of snow showers across the North Carolina mountains by late morning of the 19th. Snow showers continued off and on through the day before tapering off the flurries during the early morning of the 20th. Total accumulations were generally 3-6 inches across the high elevations along the Tennessee border. Lower elevations northwest of a line from the Pigeon River drainage through far northern Buncombe County through the northern mountains received anywhere from 0.5 inch up to 2 inches with locally higher amounts.
