Wider weather episode

A low pressure system moved northeast from the northwest Gulf of America on the 9th and through southeast Louisiana into south Alabama by the 10th. Moisture surging north as the low developed produced widespread wintry precipitation across the mid South and Tennessee Valley. Snow enveloped north Alabama and southern middle Tennessee just after midnight into the morning hours of the 10th. Some of the snow was heavy at times. A wet snow accumulation of 1 to 7 inches fell across north Alabama, before mixing with sleet and then changing to rain or freezing rain. The heaviest snow fell in the northern tier of Alabama counties. Temperatures warmed into the lower 30s, in many cases at or just above 32 degrees.
