A report of 10 inches of snow was reported 2 miles northeast of Mackeyville.

The passage of a shortwave trough and associated surface cold front led to a period of steady snow at first on January 3rd, followed by a period of banded snow showers lasting into the 4th.
Away from the ridges, snow totals in northern West Virginia generally ranged from 1 to 3 inches, with isolated higher totals. Higher elevations were mostly in the 3 to 6 inch range, with up to 10 inches noted in Tucker County.
