Hail up to the size of pennies fell about one mile west of Spout Spring.

Wider weather episode

A cold front approached the Appalachian Mountains on March 16. Scattered thunderstorms developed across southwest Virginia and became severe. The storms produced hail up to the size of half dollar coins in Giles County and winds that damaged a window and siding in Pulaski County.
