A wind gust of 34 knots (39 MPH) was measured by the ASOS at Patuxent River Naval Air Station (KNHK) adjacent to the Chesapeake Bay and tidal Patuxent River.
Wider weather episode
A cluster of strong to severe thunderstorms crossed the tidal Potomac River resulting in gale- to storm-force wind gusts. Later that evening, squalls associated with a strong cold front resulted in a rapid onset of gale-force winds.
