Wider weather episode

A powerful area of low pressure tracked across northern Ontario and Quebec on January 27th and 28th. The strong cold front associated with the system tracked south across the western and north central New York area, causing moderate to heavy snowfall at times during the night of January 27th into the morning hours of January 28th. Lake enhancement and upsloping added to the snowfall amounts, especially northeast of Lake Ontario where up to a foot of snow accumulated. Because of the strength of the area of low pressure, dropping to as low as 966 hPa, a tight pressure gradient was present over the region.
