A strong surge of Arctic air invaded Red River County in extreme Northeast Texas during early January with bitterly cold temperatures and a period of heavy snowfall that began during the early morning hours of January 9th and continued into January 10th. Overall, total snowfall amounts averaged around 3 inches across Red River County. Given these heavy amounts of snowfall, conditions were quite hazardous along with the plummeting temperatures in wake of the Arctic air intrusion, resulting in treacherous travel on area roadways during this winter storm event.
