The wind gust was measured at the Bogue Field ASOS along Bogue Sound.

Wider weather episode

A deepening low pressure system tracked northeastwards along the North Carolina Coast during the night of March tenth into the morning of March eleventh before pulling away from the area. As this occurred, shower and scattered thunderstorm activity associated with this low tracked northeastwards as well bringing strong wind gusts, frequent lightning, and locally elevated seas to our coastal waters south of Ocracoke Inlet.
