Heavy Snow — Southern Mountains, Utah

2025-03-13 to 2025-03-14 · Southern Mountains, Utah

Event narrative

Several SNOTEL stations including Panguitch Lake Rs, Gutz Peak, and Kolob recorded from 1.0 to 2.3 inches of snow water equivalent, resulting in approximately 12 to 30 inches of snow.

Wider weather episode

A sharp trough resulted in a potent winter storm impacting Utah, largely in two separate waves with a break between them. The first wave was within the prefrontal and milder southwesterly, which brought more of the high elevation snowfall. A reinforcing secondary wave moved through after the front within a cooler northwesterly flow, dropping snow levels and resulting in valley impacts, though at levels below warning/event amounts.
