Wider weather episode
A slow moving cold front began approaching the coast of North Carolina during the overnight hours of March sixteenth into the morning of March seventeenth. Along and out ahead of this front, multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms developed to the west across the Coastal Plain and then tracked east into the offshore waters of North Carolina. Some of these storms became strong in nature bringing strong wind gusts, frequent lightning, and locally enhanced seas to portions of the Eastern North Carolinas coastal and inland waters mainly south of Oregon Inlet.
