The wind gust was recorded at the Fort Macon - XMAC Weather Flow site.

A prefrontal trough pushed across Eastern North Carolina during the evening of March thirty-first. As this occurred, isolated to widely scattered showers and thunderstorms developed with a few of these storms becoming strong in nature. Within the strongest storms, strong wind gusts, frequent lightning and locally enhanced seas occurred. Storms generally impacted the coastal waters south of Cape Lookout during the evening of the thirty-first. This activity quickly weakened overnight.
