Wider weather episode

A strengthening storm system over the central Appalachians tracked northeastward and across the area on the afternoon of Sunday, the 16th. Snow developed ahead of the surface low, getting underway during the late morning and afternoon on the 15th. Warmer air aloft moved in much faster than projected and a change over to sleet or a wintry mix started the evening of the 15th. As the main low tracked toward the area, a change to freezing rain then plain rain occurred on the 16th as warmer air continued to push north. Although snow and ice totals underperformed as a whole, the additional wintry precipitation on top of heavy lake effect snow that had fallen prior did lead to the collapse of a fire department pavilion and the partial collapse of a local metal fabrication business building.
