Event narrative

Heavy snowfall continued through the morning hours with wind speeds increasing into the afternoon to create very low visibilities at Atigun Pass. A local observer reported near white out conditions and visibilities well below 1/4 miles several hours. The local Department of Transportation reported very difficult driving conditions along the Dalton Highway through the pass.

Wider weather episode

A series of surface low pressure systems tracking north into Alaska's interior continued to bring periods of heavy snow and strong winds to the northern interior and along portions of the Dalton Highway through the central Brooks Range.
