Event narrative
Strong winds and heavy snowfall combined to bring Blizzard conditions to much of Saint Lawrence Island through the morning hours. Wind gusts of 35 mph or greater were reported by the GBXA2 AWOS while visual confirmation of extremely low visibilities were observed on the FAA webcam at Gambell.
Wider weather episode
A potent low pressure center in the southern Bering Sea moved north into the Bering Strait and brought with it heavy Snowfall for Alaska's west coast along with very strong easterly surface winds. The result was a prolonged period of snow and very low visibilities due to blowing snow.
