Winter Storm — Yukon Delta Coast, Alaska
2025-01-30 to 2025-01-31 · Yukon Delta Coast, Alaska
Event narrative
The Chevak Airport AWOS (PAVA) reported Winter Storm conditions with visibilities dropping to between 1/4 and 1/2 mile for more than 12 hours while reporting heavy snow and fog. Sustained winds of 30 to 40 mph were common during this time frame.
Wider weather episode
A very cold upper level low tracked from the Bering Coastline of Western Alaska into the interior towards the end of the month. This resulted in periods of locally heavy snow and strong winds which brought low visibilities due to blowing snow. In addition, the coldest air of the season arrived across northern Alaska in the wake of this storm as a large Arctic high settled in behind the storm system.
