Two sensors measured wind chills of -35F or less, including mesonet station MTMON Monarch Canyon (MT DOT), which measured a -37F wind chill.
The wider storm
Northerly surface winds in place combined with a northwesterly flow aloft east of an upper level ridge promoted the combination of cold temperatures and breezy winds across portions of the region. The combination allowed for wind chills to dip below 35 below in many locations.
