Event narrative

A glaze of ice existed on vehicles in Roan Mountain. Nearby at Carvers Gap, ice accumulation on the roadway caused a road department salt truck to slide off the road into the ditch.

An upper trough helped power a 150 knot jet streak, which in turn powered isentropic lift, bringing enough wintry mix to the higher elevations to cause limited impacts. Meanwhile, a temperature gradient across the southern Appalachians fueled a density driven wind event in Camp Creek in Greene County.
