Strong, westerly winds developed across southern Vermont behind the passage of a cold front as amplifying surface high pressure approached from the Ohio Valley and a low pressure system strengthened east of the New England Coast. Peak wind gusts across the region ranged from around 30 to 50 miles per hour with a peak gust of 53 miles per hour in the town of Bennington in Bennington County.
