Precipitation overspread the South Carolina mountains during the evening of the 11th in association with an approaching frontal system. While temperatures were above freezing across much of the area, a pocket of cold air developed along the Blue Ridge escarpment, resulting in precipitation falling as freezing rain there for a prolonged period. Total ice accretion was mainly in around 0.10 across this area. Meanwhile, the lower elevations closer to Highway 11 saw only rain.
