Event narrative

The KEEO ASOS in Meeker recorded a gust to 59 mph at 1:14 PM MST February 5th. Gusts at or above 45 mph mainly occurred during the afternoon hours, although winds had begun to increase over the course of the morning. Recorded wind gusts ranged from 45 mph to 55 mph, with the peak gust being 59 mph.

Wider weather episode

A strong upper level jet passed over the region on February 5th. Deep mixing, thanks to unseasonably warm temperatures, was able to tap into the 130-140 knot jet aloft and bring down some stronger wind gusts. Most of the area generally saw gusts in the 35-45 mph range, but a few gusts in excess of 60 mph were recorded.
