Dense Fog — Grand Flat and Arches, Utah
2025-02-15 · Grand Flat and Arches, Utah
Event narrative
The KCNY ASOS at Canyonlands Airport, near Moab, recorded an approximately 1.5 hour period of reduced visibility. The area had received precipitation in the hours prior, and as skies tried to clear out and temperatures cooled, fog developed. Visibility only dropped below 0.5 mile for about 15 minutes, but was below 1 mile for the whole period. That said, this fog was isolated to the area around the airport, and therefore this was not a missed Dense Fog Advisory. A significant winter storm brought snow to much of eastern Utah and western Colorado. As precipitation began to dwindle over southwestern Colorado, dense fog began to develop in areas that had received fresh snow. These patches of dense fog were isolated and transient, with sensors going in and out of dense fog conditions.
