Montana mesonet sensor Dog Gun Lake E (Acedoggu) measured sustained winds, averaged over an hour, of 51 mph. Additional sensors measured gusts of criteria as well.

Wider weather episode

A series of waves flattening an upper level ridge resulted in a strong mid level flow across the region. Additionally, a strengthening surface pressure gradient developed, helping to contribute to a period of strong winds along the Northern Rocky Mountain Front and adjacent plains Jan 29 into 30.
