Two bursts of snow led to 3.2 inches of snowfall in Newport per an image relayed by media. The CO-OP observer in Newport measured 1.5 inches of snow.

A baroclinic cyclone originating near the Gulf and moving by to Tennessee's south, combined with a strong upper level jet, provided for two rounds of snow across East Tennessee.
