Wider weather episode
Tree damage occurring on the morning of March 16th in Buchanan County was the result of a strong low pressure system moving over the area. At the surface, thunderstorms advanced across the Ohio Valley during the overnight hours of March 15th into the 16th, and arrived into southwest Virginia a few hours after sunrise. Due to the fast movement of this activity, the severe weather threat quickly diminished before midday as storms raced into the Mid-Atlantic region.
