Drought conditions covered much of central, north central and northeast South Dakota at the start of the month. Mobridge, Pierre and Aberdeen would see near to slightly above normal precipitation, with Mobridge recording 1.92 inches, or 0.34 inches above normal, Pierre 2.21 inches or 0.28 inches above normal, while Aberdeen would observer 3.07 inches, or 1.16 inches above normal for April. Temperatures for April were also near-normal. This moisture would reduce the area of severe drought by the end of the month.
