Event narrative

Six to eight inches of snow fell, with the higher totals near Tyrone and Bull Run.

Wider weather episode

Low pressure tracked across southern West Virginia and Virginia on the 19th, before riding up the Atlantic Coast into the Canadian Maritimes on the 20th. The ridges of West Virginia were first hit with frontogenetically-enhanced snow on the 19th, leading to quick accumulation, and then to upslope snow showers in northwest flow behind the system into the 20th. In general, six to twelve inches of snow accumulated in the higher elevations, with foot-plus totals in portions of Preston and Tucker Counties. Elsewhere, a general two to six inches fell in other northern portions of the state.
