Event narrative

A maximum wind gust of 64 MPH was recorded at the Royal Farms Texas Water Development Board mesonet site, TWB49, located 11.2 miles northeast of Van Horn.

Wider weather episode

A quickly strengthening area of surface low pressure over eastern Colorado ahead of a potent trough pushed a strong front through the region. During the evening and early overnight hours, high winds behind this front were recorded across southeast New Mexico and the higher elevations of West Texas.
