State Highway 349 was reportedly shut down between Rankin and Midkiff due to high winds and near-zero visibility from blowing dust. Wind speeds were observed to be 60 MPH in the area.

A broad western United States trough and an intense surface low pressure over the central Great Plains resulted in westerly high winds and blowing dust over a large portion of Southeast New Mexico and West Texas.
